  • To join the registry, a person must have a valid ID and be at least 16.

  • More than 25 people can benefit from a single donor.

  • All major religions support donation as a charitable act of giving to others.

  • Donation is not considered until all efforts to save a person’s life have failed.

  • Acceptable organs include the heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, pancreas and intestines. Tissues include skin, bone, corneas, tendons, heart valves, saphenous veins, blood and bone marrow

  • A donor’s family is never charged for the recovery of organs, nor do they receive compensation.

  • Funeral/burial arrangements are not delayed due to organ/tissue donation.

  • In the U.S., it is illegal to buy or sell organs.

  • Consent to be a donor may be withdrawn at any time by notifying the Secretary of State’s office
